An excellent little documentary / satire that I wish could have been expanded and developed more.
Yet, the film interrogates that in the 21st century Asian Canadian still cannot assimilate or “transcend’ their racial identity in the nation’s fabric.
It also makes salient argument (for me at least) why embracing the “model minority” politics still falls flat on its ass.
It is paradoxical, as Asians will never be recognized as “belonging” to the nation’s fabric as “real Canadians” no matter how many generations they have been in Canada.
Like Afro-Canadians, they will always remain racial and cultural “outsiders”.
How many generations will it take to finally “belong”…?
